Samsung Galaxy Book S 2019 Review

Samsung Galaxy Book S 2019 Review

First laptop with Snapdragon 8cx ...

Samsung Galaxy Book S extends to the world of "laptop light" more than its predecessor in the tablet with the keyboard, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2, which was launched last October. It is smaller but not necessarily clearer, and targets an audience who wants basic productivity on the go with a sleek device.

If that sounds a little backwards, it's because more land for laptops is tilted with expectations - more ports, for one thing, but also the specs that will deal with things like light games and streaming media.

Although we didn't get much time with the Galaxy Book S, it doesn't seem to meet some of these expectations, and for the mid-range laptop price, we doubt its ability to compete with custom devices that are probably more powerful .

But reformulate your point of view: think of it as a supercharged tablet for tasks you can save for productivity that support the keyboard - which is always connected to the Internet through a data plan - a sensible, conscious solution to productivity on the go. Don't expect to get perfect with a conventional laptop.

Price and issue date:

The Galaxy Book S starts at $ 999 in the U.S. and comes only in the LTE version paired with a Verizon connection. The US version will be released in the fall, while the global version will be released in September, although we don't have details about the prices, or about the carriers that will be exporting them outside the US.

Design and display:

You can say this about the Galaxy Book S: you won't make a mistake about it for the previous one.

The Book S has an anodized aluminum frame on top and bottom, making it almost stiff as a full-size laptop - no more fake Surface 6-style keyboard coupled with a folding keyboard. This gives you a bit more intensity, making typing more enjoyable.

Admittedly, the more committed Book S app for laptop formatting makes it look stylish. The top cover folds down on the bottom in a way that we don't see outside your MacBook Air. It is also convenient that it is very light, weighing just over 2.1 lbs (0.96 kg).

You still have only two USB-C ports, and not two Thunderbolt, making this semi-portable laptop rely on dongles if you want to use any extras. There's a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The keyboard is slim but has enough travel, somewhere between the Dell XPS 13 and the MacBook Air. This does not seem cheap, but we wonder how this kind of continuous writing produced as a production machine will endure. There is a fingerprint sensor in the power button, located on the top right of the keyboard, although we haven't tested it.

However, the 13-inch screen is not so great thanks to Full HD (1920 x 1080); even the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 tablet has a 2560 x 1600 screen. Widely different display.

At the top of the screen, 720p HD camera, serviceable shooter.

the performance:

The main claim to fame for the Galaxy Book S is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx, a 64-bit octa-core chipset at 7-bit speed (2.84 GHz + 1.8 GHz) that claims to have performed at an i5 level. We'll wait until we review our full review to see how tablet and laptop processors build up, but we hope to see them work well.

Book S has 8GB of RAM, either 256GB or 512GB of storage, both of which are big numbers that make the entry price more likely - and best of all, you can expand this up to 1TB via a slot microSD. At the same time, the always-on LTE connection makes you stream and stream on the go.

Early judgment:

Samsung Galaxy Book S is a serious step in the laptop business, and we doubt it will rise to its steep price the way a dedicated laptop can.

But the LTE capability that is always working can be more comfortable than we expect, and if the Qualcomm chip will become as powerful as those on top tablets such as the iPad Pro 11, the custom laptop design may be more common than we expect. We are eager to see how this experiment is conducted.
