Everything you need to know about the annual Google event

Google hosted the annual 'Made by Google' event on Tuesday 15 October 2019 to launch its latest phones: The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. But it wasn't the only product in the Google hardware and software lineup that gets updates. Google announced updates to a smart speaker, network system, and many new products.

These included a range of AirPods headphones, a new Chromebook, and a new gaming platform. Here's all you need to know about Google's annual event

Pixel 4 The smartest Android smartphone gets the most spotlight

By this point, many new features have already emerged from the Pixel 4 worth $ 800, dubbed The Verge "the most leaked phone ever." All these features and the new design are really exciting. The transition between Pixel 3 and Pixel 4 could be greater than usability upgrades such as the jump between iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

The new Pixel 4 features a new industrial design, without the back in two colors of Pixel 3 or Pixel 3a. It also has a square camera box and comes in three colors, black, white and peach-like orange. The front screen (silent!) Has a very large upper frame to house the phone's front camera and some new sensors.

These new phone sensors offer some new features, including face unlock and radar gesture control. Although these sensors have been on Apple and Samsung phones since 2017, the face unlock feature is new on Pixel. It's a welcome update, one of the few areas where Google Phone doesn't feel like a leader in this category.

Adding a radar chip - something Google has been working on for five years as Project Soli - opens up some shiny changes. Now you can do a few different things by just waving your hand on the phone, including skipping new songs and quiet alarms. The radar chip will also feel when you are away from the phone, turning off the always-on display, and when you approach the phone.

According to Google, it means that the phone will have the fastest time to unlock any phone currently available, because it knows when to approach the phone to prepare for the unlock. No need to tap or rotate the phone to wake it up. It is not clear how this will work in practice, but it will be interesting to know how Google and developers will increase this data in future software updates. If you do not want your phone to use that data, which is processed on the device itself and should not have been sent to the company, you can not use the radar.

Google has spent a large part of the event talking about changes to the Pixel camera. The phone now includes two rear cameras: a 12-megapixel main camera and a 16-megapixel telephoto lens. Google says that the new telephoto lens in Pixel 4 will improve your ability to take zoom, when you're away from something, and photos in shooting mode. The phone also removed the second camera facing it

The main improvements of the camera are software-based, and some forms of machine learning are used. Google says night mode has been improved to the point where you can now take pictures of stars and evening landscapes in black conditions. The Camera app now gives you some additional tone setting controls, which let you connect to the brightness and shadow you want to appear. Google also spent time optimizing preview in real time, so the image you see when framing the shot is the one you take

Google has also changed how Google Assistant is integrated into the device. Instead of being a separate app that you should go to, the Assistant now appears at the bottom of the Pixel screen whenever you connect to it. When you press the phone, swipe up from the corner, or say "Hey Google", a rainbow bar will appear immediately ready to listen to your inquiry, which is copied immediately as you say. This works very fast, as Google says that because of its new processor (Pixel Neural Core) and because the phone can do many of these tasks without having to access information from the cloud - the data it needs is stored on your phone.

We haven't found a whole host of other goodies like super fast refresh rate, the ability to copy audio almost instantaneously, and some emergency features.

Google Home Mini is now Google Nest Hub Mini

The naming conventions of the Google smart home lineup have become insanely confusing since the company rolled out the Nest brand page of smart home products last year. If you want to share the connected home with Google, you have ... a lot to choose from. Are you a fan of Google Nest, for example? In the past, you may have noticed that all Google smart speakers with built-in monitors have the Nest moniker label. But the company changed that day with the upgraded version of Google Home Mini without the screen, now called Nest Hub Mini

The $ 50 Google Nest Mini app features several upgrades on including an additional microphone, a more accurate speaker, and a wall-mounted speaker. Google Home Mini is the Google Home speaker we recommend for anyone who wants a smart start to the house. Once it is available in a few weeks and assuming that something did not go wrong during the test, Nest Mini is likely to replace it.

Google Wifi is now Nest Wifi

Google has announced an updated version of the $ 270 Wifi router called Google Nest Wifi, a networked communications system. This means that instead of having only one router in one corner of your home connecting any of your devices to the Internet, you can use a single router with multiple signals spread over your home space. Google redesigned both the router and the "points" to extend its potential coverage by 25 percent. According to Google, the $ 270 package, which includes one device and one point, should be enough to cover an area of 3,800 square feet.

The system comes with a lot of usability and integration features that we also see in other network systems like Eero (owned by Amazon), including family controls, speed testing, password sharing and guest network creation. But Google has taken steps and enabled Google Assistant to enable the smart headset itself. This means that a device that ensures that you have a strong enough connection to stream TV in your bedroom can also be used to open Netflix on this TV, provided you use a compatible streaming device. If all this integration is successful, Nest Wifi may prove to be one of the hottest new releases for 2019. It will be available on November 4.

 New and affordable Chromebook

Chromebook has always been an attractive alternative option for those who aren't interested in spending more than $ 1,000 on a new MacBook. But up to this point, these Chromebooks have been manufactured by companies such as Asus, Acer and HP.

Google owns a Pixelbook that was released in 2017. The company finally handled this with the new $ 650 Pixelbook Go laptop, which comes with 8GB of RAM and a high-resolution display. The laptop has stunningly painted finishes, especially when it's pink (Google annoyingly calls it "not pink"), and a ribbed bottom that makes it easier to control.

The early impressions of the new computer praise the keyboard, designed by Google to be quiet and fun to type on.

Pixel Buds Wireless Earbuds Replace Airpods?

The first version of Google Pixel Buds, the Bluetooth headsets that were connected to each other via braided cords, was heavily wandering. It was full of usability issues, including bad touch controls, strange ear, and uncomfortable pregnancy.

The new Pixel Buds, announced today, is a comprehensive overhaul of the old model. Now it's real wireless, but offers the same access to Google Assistant. The new model of Pixel Buds has the kind of touch controls we expect from real wireless headphones these days, but it also has an adaptive audio program that will increase or decrease the volume no matter what you are listening based on where you are. The headphones charge via USB-C, are sweat-resistant and waterproof (making them great for workouts), and have a microphone for making calls.

Google designs a gaming platform for a reason

I don't know who is ordering a new gaming system (Nintendo Switch is perfect anyway), but Google designed the $ 130 Google Stadia gaming platform, a cloud gaming service that will be available on November 19. It's a subscription service that lets you buy games you can play on TV with Google Chromecast, Pixelbooks and Pixel phones.
