Hackers from North Korea launch crypto scam to hack MacOS

Security researchers have discovered another attack from a North Korean penetration group. According to research published yesterday, the hacking group Lazarus is now using a counterfeit cryptocurrency trading program, created by a fake counterfeit company, according to Forbes reports.

The hackers seem to have created a front-end company called JMT Trading, and designed an open source companion trading app.

Upon close scrutiny, JMT Trading is just a re-application of previous Lazarus strategies in which malicious code combines with legitimate-looking applications.

`` Last year, Lazarus created a fake trading platform and a company called Celas, which was discovered by Kaspersky Labs security researchers, '' says Kaspersky media outlet.

`` During the investigation into the cryptocurrency exchange that was attacked by the hacking group Lazarus, we made an unexpected discovery. The victim was injured with the help of the cryptocurrency trading application, which was recommended to the company via email. ''

Research last year found that the North Korean-linked piracy group was the world's most profitable piracy company.
