Twitter modifies Twitter rules after voices demanding Trump ban
The revised Twitter rules follow renewed pressure from Democrats to remove US President Donald Trump from her platform
Twitter said: "It is in the public interest not to remove Twitter for politicians. But world leaders have not completely transcended our policies."
Twitter added: "Direct interactions with your fellow public figures, comments on political issues today, or talking about foreign policy and economic or military issues do not generally violate Twitter rules."
Twitter said that if politicians violate its rules, their tweets may be quarantined, meaning users cannot reply to, like or share them.
But action will be taken if your Twitter account:
- Threatens the individual
- Promotes terrorism or self-harm
- Publishes private information, such as phone number
Many Democrats have said that Trump's tweets threaten individuals, citing a series of recent articles targeting anonymous "informants" whose claims have begun to bring charges against President Trump.
