Two teenagers arrested for infiltrating Metropolitan Police website and spreading strange messages
Two Scottish teenagers were arrested for allegedly infiltrating the Metropolitan Police site and publishing a series of bizarre messages.
Britain's largest police force was attacked online in July and a series of tweets were sent from its verified account of more than 1.2 million followers.
A bunch of unusual emails were also sent from the police press office. The arrested teenagers are 18 and 19 years old from Los Angeles and Glasgow.
They have been charged with carrying out the alleged breach by the Scottish police and President Donald Trump used the incident to attack London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
Quoting a tweet from right-wing commentator Katie Hopkins, in which he says: "The officers have lost control of the streets of London and lost control of their Twitter account as well," Trump wrote in a tweet: "With the incompetent mayor of London, you will never have safe streets."
Scotland Yard confirmed earlier that its website "was subject to unauthorized access".
The force said it used an online provider called MyNewsDesk to issue newsletters and said "unauthorized messages" appeared on its website, Twitter account and in e-mails sent to subscribers.
Deleted Tweets contain abusive language and names several people.
