Twitter recognizes the use of user phone numbers for advertising purposes


 
In a statement, the social networking site Twitter acknowledged that it used phone numbers and emails of some users for advertising purposes, the first time the site had admitted something similar.

In her statement, Tuter said that some telephone numbers and emails were used for advertising purposes in an unintended manner, precisely at the level of targeted advertisements, but it was interesting that this was for security purposes rather than for advertising.


After discovering this problem, Twitter announced that it no longer exists.
