Facebook is preparing to launch a custom news tab

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said earlier this year that he was looking for the idea of adding news to the site and apps. Facebook's social media giant appears to have struck a deal with news providers, allowing it to display headlines in a customized news tab.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, which says license fees and other details have been set up with the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, the Washington Post, the Bosnian News, and business insiders.

The Wall Street Journal says that part of the negotiations involved in deciding how to handle pay, news providers will not want to give up all their stories for free.

Both editors and human algorithms will be used to choose the best news of the day, according to the Wall Street Journal reports, and there will be no advertising on the new News tab.

"It's important for me to help people get credible news and find solutions that help journalists around the world do their important work," Zuckerberg said in April.

Facebook's arrangements with publishers appear to be similar to those set up to create the Apple News Plus platform, the digital newspaper and magazine package service launched in March.
